SCIseg

This page provides the latest news and key updates from the SCIseg (Spinal Cord Injury Segmentation) project. SCIseg focuses on developing an automatic and reproducible tool for analyzing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans using machine learning and deep learning techniques. The goal is to extract clinically relevant metrics to support improved management of patients with spinal cord injury (SCI).

Jun 2025: I gave talks on the applications of AI in MRI data analysis at the Olomouc Neurosurgical Days and during a seminar hosted by the Department of Neurology, Palacký University. 🇨🇿

Mar 2025: Our paper “Normalizing spinal cord compression measures in degenerative cervical myelopathy” was published in the journal The Spine Journal ! The method is open-source and available as part of Spinal Cord Toolbox (SCT).

Feb 2025: I gave a talk during the RHSCIR Principal Investigator Meeting at the 2025 Canadian Spine Society (CSS) Conference in La Malbaie, Quebec, Canada. 🇨🇦

Feb 2025: Our work “SCIsegV2: A Universal Tool for Segmentation of Intramedullary Lesions in Spinal Cord Injury” was published as a conference proceeding paper! The segmentation tool is open-source and available as part of Spinal Cord Toolbox (SCT).

Nov 2024: I gave a talk on "Advanced processing of spinal cord MRI data using artificial intelligence" at the 2024 Czech and Slovak Neurological Congress in Ostrava, Czech Republic. 🇨🇿

Nov 2024: Our paper “SCIseg: Automatic Segmentation of Intramedullary Lesions in Spinal Cord Injury on T2-weighted MRI Scans” was published in the journal Radiology: Artificial Intelligence (2024 Impact Factor: 13.2)! The segmentation tool is open-source and available as part of Spinal Cord Toolbox (SCT).

Oct 2024: We presented our work at the MICCAI Applications of Medical Artificial Intelligence (AMAI) Workshop 2024 in Marrakech, Morocco! 🇲🇦

Jun 2024: I participated in and won third place in the MF180 (My Fellowship in 180 Seconds) competition held at Polytechnique Montréal, Canada! 🇨🇦 🏆

May 2024: We presented our work at the 2024 ISMRM & ISMRT Annual Meeting & Exhibition in Singapore! 🇸🇬

Mar 2024: We published a review paper "Reproducible Spinal Cord Quantitative MRI Analysis with the Spinal Cord Toolbox" in the journal Magnetic Resonance in Medical Sciences!

Feb 2024: Our paper "A database of the healthy human spinal cord morphometry in the PAM50 template space" was published in the journal Imaging Neuroscience! We also published the paper as an interactive preprint.

Nov 2023: I attended the 2023 Martinos Spinal Cord Workshop at the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging in Boston, United States! 🇺🇸

Jul 2023: I attended the 2023 Deep Learning and Reinforcement Learning (DLRL) Summer School, organized by CIFAR (the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research), in Montreal, Canada! 🇨🇦

May 2023: Project kickoff! 🎉 I am excited to announce the beginning of the SCIseg research project.
